in Rants and Raves

From Trackwreck Hell to Timezones @877

The earlier rant needs a little follow-up. In the pursuit of fixing or at least checking the open issues, I noticed that a trackback / ping to a website located in the same network does accept the trackback and works.

Interestingly enough, the .NET engine shows the internal IP address of the other webserver. Perhaps that’s why links to external posts are not processed as trackback. Surely, it’s not the end of the world if the trackback feature isn’t working, but it would be great to know why it might or might not work.

I still think it has to do with the security configuration in combination with the engine code. Although it wouldn’t completely surprise me if this behavior is caused by the timezone hassle. The lead developer of the engine even dedicated an entire post about trouble in time zone hell.

Whether it all has to do with those (less)restrictive web permissions or with timezones, it makes me rethink that Swatch Internet Time initiative. Although I’m the first to admit I never understood how to read @194 in a breeze. Surely, not the most convenient measurement for the human brain, but it might be a suitable solution for web services?
